Features

Painted Zia Stables is different than many local barns because we offer private and semi-private pastures. This means that you can have your horse be pastured solo or with one other horse. No more being swarmed by a pack of "piranhas" fighting over your horse treats, or rounding up the 12 other horses that rushed out the gate when you tried to get your horse for a ride! No more coming out the morning of the big show to see a bloody hoof print square in the chest, or a chunk of rump missing from a "love-bite." We realize that your horse is your baby, and you do not want to see scars or weight loss from fights over food and herd dominance. Our arrangement virtually eliminates many of the problems seen at large barns who group many horses together in a small paddock. However, our pasture set-up still allows the horses to get the crucial social interaction with other horses that they need.

Our facilities include a barn with four 12×12 foot stalls and a large tack room with fridge. A large bathroom is in the works, as well as our round pen. Our arena is approximately 175×150 feet, with flood lights for night riding. There are beautiful, well-made jumps for our hunter-jumper aficionados. There is a wash rack with cross-ties, a hot walker, trailer parking, and a large system of wonderful trails.

Our paddocks are between a ½-acre to ¾-acre in size, planted in coastal Bermuda pasture, and have a large, lighted shelter with plumbing. We prefer not to use automatic watering because the time spent watering your horse is a great time to observe your horse's condition and look for problems, as well as allowing us to monitor your horse's water intake to ensure he/she is drinking and eating normally. We check the water troughs twice a day.
